Stable Mates I painted Stablemates early this year to portray the interaction between two animals when they think no one is watching. Here, the groom has removed the colt's cooler and has tossed it onto the top of an old trunk. The colt is fit and his shining coat reveals the pride with which he has been groomed. At the moment, the groom has stepped out of the stall, leaving an open invitation for the observant greyhound. The greyhound knows she is not allowed in the stall, but spotting the cooler lying there proves to be a temptation more than she can resist. Quietly, she has come into the stall and pulled the cooler down from the trunk. The colt watches with interest as she busily arranges it upon the straw bedding. Both animals are aware that the groom will soon be returning, but now, with a look of apprehension, the greyhound carefully lies down upon her comfortable (albeit temporary) new bed. This painting is in the collection of Mr. and Mr.s Omar Trevino. Image 14 of 17
